Judicial Probe Sought Into Alleged Recruitment Document Fraud in Margherita

Student bodies and civil society groups allege forged Assam residency papers were used by outsiders to secure jobs in Central security forces

Guwahati: Allegations of a document forgery network linked to recruitment into Central Government security forces have triggered a political and social storm in Assam’s Margherita Co-District, with several organisations demanding a judicial inquiry.

Student bodies and local groups have alleged that individuals from states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and West Bengal obtained forged residential and identity documents from Assam to become eligible for jobs in forces including the CRPF, CISF, Assam Rifles and ITBP.

At the centre of the controversy is Mukesh Chauhan of Margherita, who has been accused of facilitating fake permanent resident and caste certificates for applicants from outside the state. The allegations, however, remain unverified and no formal findings have been released by authorities.

Local organisations further claimed that several candidates who completed their education outside Assam allegedly used forged Assam documents during recruitment procedures.

The issue has prompted the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Margherita Regional Student Union, Veer Lachit Sena and other organisations to seek immediate intervention from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam Police. They have demanded a thorough investigation to determine the scale of the alleged fraud and identify those responsible.

Responding to the controversy, officials in the Margherita Co-District administration said appropriate action would be initiated if irregularities are established during verification.

As of now, no formal inquiry has been announced, and the allegations remain under scrutiny.
