Himashree Boro Death Case: GRP Suspects Assam Student Fell from Moving Train

Preliminary inquiry points to a possible fall from the train, while her family alleges foul play and demands a thorough investigation

Guwahati:The Government Railway Police (GRP) has suspected that Assam student Himashree Boro, 21, may have fallen from a moving train before her body was found beside railway tracks in Andhra Pradesh. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

Boro had boarded the 22503 Kanniyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express at Visakhapatnam early on October 6 while returning to Guwahati after attending a dance programme. Her body was recovered on October 7 near the railway line between Ponduru and Dusi in Srikakulam district.

According to a preliminary inquiry by GRP Palasa, “Prima facie, it is suspected that the deceased might have fallen from the running train.” However, investigators have yet to establish the sequence of events leading to her death.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said a complaint regarding alleged misbehaviour with a woman passenger was received through the Rail Madad portal on October 6. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) searched the train’s general and sleeper coaches but could not trace Boro.

Her family said she had contacted friends, expressing discomfort over the behaviour of several men in the coach. They have alleged foul play and demanded a thorough investigation.

The GRP and RPF have registered separate cases. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from railway stations and recording statements of passengers and other individuals connected to the case.
