Former Intelligence Bureau Director from Assam will serve on the Nandan Nilekani-led task force to recommend sweeping reforms to India’s examination system
Guwahati: Former Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Tapan Deka has been appointed to the Centre’s high-level task force that will recommend comprehensive reforms to India’s examination system, with Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani heading the panel.
Announcing the committee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “We must prepare for the future by creating an examination system that is transparent, reliable and makes maximum use of technology.”
A senior IPS officer from Assam, Deka recently completed his tenure as IB Director and is expected to play a key role in strengthening security measures against paper leaks, examination fraud and other malpractices. His expertise in intelligence and national security will contribute to making competitive examinations more secure and transparent.
The task force was constituted a day after the Centre accepted key demands raised during nationwide protests over alleged irregularities, including the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
Besides Deka, the panel includes former ISRO Chairman S Somanath, IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal and senior administrator Amrit Lal Meena. The committee will also recommend reforms for the National Testing Agency to improve examination management and digital safeguards.
