Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviews flood situation with the Assam Chief Minister as the death toll rises to 61 and over 7 lakh people remain affected across 12 dustricts
Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, July 25 spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to review the state’s worsening flood situation and assured every possible support from the Centre for relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.
Sharing the update on X, the Chief Minsiter stated the Prime Minister sought details about the extent of the devastation, ongoing relief operations and challenges on the ground.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji telephoned me a short while ago to enquire about the prevailing Assam Floods. He sought an update on the extent of the devastation, the ongoing relief operations and the challenges we are confronting on the ground,” the Chief Minister said. .
According to the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property and assured that the flood crisis was being accorded the highest priority. “The Government of India will extend every possible support to aid our relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said the flood death toll has risen to 61 after 14 more people died in the past 24 hours. More than 7.05 lakh people across 12 districts remain affected, with Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat among the worst-hit districts.
