Delhi Police registers an FIR over pellet injuries suffered by 19-year-old student Sahil Lochab during the July 20 Jantar Mantar protest
New Delhi: The Delhi Police has registered an FIR over pellet injuries suffered by 19-year-old student Sahil Lochab during the July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar, following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s six-hour sit-in at Parliament Street Police Station.
Gandhi had accompanied Lochab, who reportedly suffered pellet injuries to his eyes and abdomen during the Cockroach Janta Party-led march demanding former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Lochab later underwent surgery at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Police said the FIR was registered under Sections 118 and 25 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous means and acts endangering life or personal safety. Gandhi termed the FIR the “first step towards justice” as he ended his protest.
Earlier, Gandhi and Lochab had approached Mandir Marg Police Station seeking registration of the case. After the complaint was not accepted, they went to Parliament Street Police Station, where Gandhi met DCP (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma.
Following the meeting, Gandhi staged a dharna, joined by Lochab and his mother, along with Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party leaders. “Our only demand is FIR and the name of the investigating officer,” Gandhi said, insisting that the family was only seeking justice.
