Former Silchar MLA reaffirms faith in BJP leadership and warns of legal action over alleged misleading reports amid civic poll ticket discussions
Guwahati: Former Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty on September 9 dismissed speculation that he was planning to quit the BJP, calling the reports “completely baseless” and reaffirming his faith in the party leadership.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with party in-charges, Chakraborty, accompanied by minister Krishnendu Paul, said there was no question of him leaving the BJP. “I am with the party and have full confidence in its leadership,” Chakraborty said, amid speculation over his political future.
He also threatened legal action against several media organisations for allegedly publishing misleading and false reports about his purported decision to leave the BJP.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation within the BJP over ticket distribution for the upcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation election.
Chakraborty’s statement assumes significance as the party weighs potential candidates and finalises its ticket strategy for the first municipal corporation election in Silchar.
