Himanta Biswa Sarma says 28 families were affected and stresses that agricultural land must be protected from encroachment
Goalpara: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated the state government’s “zero tolerance” policy towards encroachments, highlighting an eviction drive in Goalpara that cleared 64 houses.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister said 28 families were affected by the action and asserted that agricultural fields must be protected for indigenous communities. “Our agricultural fields are for our indigenous people,” the Chief Minister said, warning that encroachers would not be allowed to operate as “Land Mafias”.
The Chief Minister said the eviction drive had expanded the agricultural area in the district, presenting the action as part of the government’s broader effort to protect agricultural land from unauthorised occupation.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid the Assam government’s continued focus on eviction drives against alleged encroachments on government and agricultural land.
