The six-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team will inspect six flood-affected districts and review losses caused by floods during 2025 and 2026 before submitting its assessment to the Centre
Guwahati: A six-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) from the Government of India arrived in Guwahati, for a four-day assessment of flood damage across Assam, covering losses caused during the 2025 and 2026 floods.
Led by Praveen Kumar Rai, Joint Secretary (UT) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, the delegation includes officials from the Ministries of Finance, Jal Shakti, Rural Development, Road Transport and Highways, and the National Remote Sensing Centre.
The team was received by officials of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). During an introductory meeting, Additional Chief Secretary and ASDMA CEO L. Sweety Changsan briefed the delegation on the flood situation and the damage recorded over the past two years.
To facilitate the assessment, the IMCT has been divided into two groups. One team will visit Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Gohpur (Biswanath), while the other will inspect Cachar, Bajali and Chirang between July 8 and July 11.
The delegation will conduct on-the-spot assessments of damage to infrastructure, agriculture and public assets before holding a review meeting with the Assam Chief Secretary and senior officials at Janata Bhawan in Dispur.
