A total of over 60 soap cases were seized in an intelligence-led operation: probe points to wider interstate trafficking link

Guwahati: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police intercepted a suspected narcotics consignment in Amingaon, leading to the arrest of four women and the seizure of heroin valued at around Rs 7 crore.
Acting on specific intelligence, the STF tracked a group believed to be transporting drugs into Assam for distribution across lower Assam. The operation was swiftly executed, and the suspects were intercepted before the consignment could be moved further.
During the search, officials recovered 62 soap cases containing suspected heroin, weighing approximately 837 grams, excluding packaging. Investigators noted that the method of concealment suggested a deliberate attempt to evade detection during transit.
The accused have been identified as Demthang Haokip (36) of Tuibong, Lam Neikim (25) of Zouveng village, Hoineigah (24), Kim Neithen (36) of Lanva, and Ngah Pi (30), all from Manipur’s Churachandpur district. According to officials, Haokip is suspected of coordinating the movement of the consignment.
Preliminary findings indicate that the drugs were intended for delivery in Amingaon before further distribution. “The case may be linked to a larger interstate network,” an official said.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak. Consequently, legal action has been initiated as investigations continue to trace wider links.
