Husori troupe’s vehicle collides head-on with trailer; five critically injured, probe underway

Tamulpr: A late-night road accident in Assam’s Tamulpur district has claimed the life of a young Bihu performer and left 11 others injured, casting a shadow over ongoing Rongali Bihu celebrations.
The incident occurred near Naokata along the Tamulpur–Nagrijuli road when a Traveller vehicle carrying members of the Bhaskarjyoti Bihu Husori Team collided head-on with a trailer coming from the opposite direction. The troupe, comprising around 30 performers from Haribhanga in Nalbari, was travelling to Bangalipara for a scheduled performance.
Nishamani Haloi (25), a resident of Niz Jhargaon, died at the scene. Meanwhile, the injured have been identified as Arun Medhi, Bidyut Das, Jagat Ray, driver Pankaj Baishya, Ankita Das, Ratan Kalita, Nitu Baruah, Shivani Baruah, Kabyashree Saruwa, and Dibakar Moran.
Initially, all the injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities. However, as their condition worsened, five of them were referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
Police confirmed that the Traveller (AS-25-DC-5893) and the trailer (PB 03 AP 6681) were involved in the crash. Subsequently, an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the collision.
Local residents have expressed grief over the tragic loss, especially as the accident occurred during one of Assam’s most vibrant cultural celebrations. Authorities have assured that necessary action will follow based on the findings.
