Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya outlined the NDA government’s five-year roadmap, highlighting jobs, economy, UCC and border security amid Opposition protests in the Assembly

Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya presented the BJP-led government’s roadmap for the next five years during his maiden address to the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly, while Opposition parties staged protests and walked out over issues including inflation and unemployment.
The disruption began soon after the Governor started his speech, as Congress and Raijor Dal MLAs entered the Well of the House with placards and slogans, accusing the government of ignoring public hardships. While Congress legislators walked out early, Raijor Dal MLAs led by Akhil Gogoi remained briefly before submitting a memorandum and exiting.
In his address, the Governor said the NDA’s third consecutive term reflected public trust in “peace, stability and inclusive development.” He also highlighted the government’s push for stricter action against illegal infiltration, stating that Assam Police and the BSF would jointly intensify border enforcement.
The Governor announced that Assam aims to become a power-surplus state within five years and projected the state economy to touch Rs 10 lakh crore by 2028–29. He further said the government plans to create 2 lakh jobs over the next five years while expanding citizen-centric services and digital infrastructure.
Welcoming the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) legislation, Acharya said it would safeguard tribal customs while promoting “social harmony and gender equality.”
Later, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Governor’s speech reflected Assam’s “roadmap for a Viksit and Surakshit Assam.”
