Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Seeks Swift Probe into Himashree Boro’s Death

Himanta assigns a senior IPS officer to oversee the case and writes to the Union Railway Minister and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister seeking intervention

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed grief over the death of Himashree Boro, a student from Assam whose body was found beside railway tracks in Andhra Pradesh, and sought a speedy and thorough investigation into the case.

Boro, a student of B. Borooah College in Guwahati, was returning from Visakhapatnam aboard the Kanyakumari-Dibrugarh Vivek Express when she went missing during the journey. Her body was later recovered near railway tracks in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district.

According to reports, Boro had contacted friends and family members, expressing fear and discomfort over the presence of allegedly unruly and intoxicated men in her coach. Her family has raised concerns over the circumstances of her death and alleged negligence by railway authorities.

A preliminary inquiry by the Government Railway Police reportedly suggested that she might have fallen from the moving train. However, the exact circumstances of her death remain under investigation.

Following the incident, the Chief Minister assigned a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer to oversee the case. He also wrote to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, seeking their intervention to ensure a prompt and thorough investigation.

The probe is expected to establish the sequence of events leading to Boro’s disappearance and death and address the concerns raised by her family.
