Assam BJP Sends Rs 16 Crore Flood relief to Upper Assam

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off relief materials for four flood-hit districts, while Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya reviewed rescue operations and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta offered assistance

Guwahati: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dispatched Rs 16 crore worth of flood relief materials to affected families in Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagging off the consignment from the party’s state headquarters in Guwahati.

Collected through voluntary contributions from BJP workers, the relief package includes 1.8 lakh mekhela chadors, 1.8 lakh children’s T-shirts and 1.5 lakh mosquito nets.

Addressing the programme, Sarma said the floods had pushed thousands of families into hardship and reiterated the government’s relief measures, including Rs 9 lakh ex gratia for the families of deceased victims, Rs 17,500 immediate assistance for affected households, special Orunodoi benefits, free textbooks, uniforms and financial aid for students.

The chief minister also said he would meet bank representatives, following directions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, to discuss relief measures for flood-affected borrowers.

Meanwhile, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya reviewed the flood situation and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations, with special focus on vulnerable groups. He also appreciated the efforts of the ASDMA, SDRF, NDRF, police, healthcare workers, volunteers and NGOs.

Adding to the support, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta spoke with Sarma and expressed her government’s readiness to assist Assam’s relief and rehabilitation efforts. She conveyed solidarity with flood-affected families and wished for the safety of rescue personnel.
