Arunachal CM Flags Off Operation Arunoday to Boost Frontier Adventure Tourism

The civil-military expedition aims to open a new trekking route to Bajrang Peak while promoting sustainable tourism and livelihood opportunities in Arunachal Pradesh’s border region

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Saturday flagged off Operation Arunoday, a joint civil-military expedition aimed at promoting adventure tourism while enhancing the development and visibility of the state’s frontier regions.

The expedition, jointly undertaken by the Indian Army and the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), seeks to establish a trekking route from Thingbu village to Bajrang Peak, situated at an altitude of 5,583 metres in Tawang district.

Announcing the initiative, Khandu said the future of Arunachal’s frontier lies not only in safeguarding its borders but also in enabling people to experience the region responsibly. “The future of Arunachal’s frontier lies not only in safeguarding it, but also in enabling people to experience it responsibly,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister further said Operation Arunoday would unlock the state’s immense adventure tourism potential while creating new livelihood opportunities for local communities and bringing greater visibility to remote frontier areas.

Calling it a unique civil-military initiative, Khandu expressed confidence that the expedition would contribute to sustainable tourism and inclusive development in the border region without compromising its ecological and strategic significance.

The Chief Minister also wished the expedition team a safe and successful mission, stating that the collaboration between the Indian Army and NIMAS reflects a shared commitment to promoting responsible tourism and showcasing Arunachal Pradesh’s rich natural landscape to adventure enthusiasts from across the country.
