AIUDF chief says opposition parties should not fear the BJP, backs Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, and calls for better coordination among INDIA bloc partners after West Bengal setbacks
Guwahati: AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal has called for greater unity within the INDIA bloc, urging opposition parties to stop being intimidated by the BJP and strengthen coordination ahead of future elections.
Speaking to reporters, Ajmal expressed confidence that the political landscape would eventually shift, saying, “Eventually, it will be PM Modi’s turn. People will break him too. We should not be afraid.”
Backing Rahul Gandhi’s leadership of the opposition alliance, Ajmal said the INDIA bloc must remain united if it hopes to effectively challenge the BJP. “We should not be afraid. The INDIA alliance, the coalition Rahul Gandhi is leading, needs to be strong,” he said.
Referring to the recent political developments in West Bengal, Ajmal suggested that a lack of coordination among alliance partners had weakened the opposition’s prospects. He argued that coalition partners should avoid contesting against one another in states where regional allies are leading the electoral battle.
“If Rahul Gandhi hadn’t contested in Bengal, perhaps Mamata Banerjee wouldn’t be in this condition. When there is an alliance, one shouldn’t go there,” he said, stressing the need for better electoral understanding within the opposition.
Ajmal’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions within the INDIA bloc over improving coordination and presenting a united front ahead of upcoming elections.
