Rahul Gandhi blamed the Modi government for fresh violence in Manipur, saying its “divisive ideology” has deepened the conflict after homes were torched
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the Centre following fresh violence in Manipur, alleging that the renewed unrest was the result of the Modi government’s “divisive ideology.”
The remarks came a day after fresh attacks in Kamjong district, where several houses were set ablaze in separate incidents involving Kuki and Tangkhul Naga settlements near the India-Myanmar border.
According to reports, armed miscreants torched Phaimol, a Kuki-Zo village, on Wednesday afternoon after residents had already evacuated to a nearby village due to security concerns. In a suspected retaliatory attack, at least 12 houses belonging to the Tangkhul Naga community were reportedly set on fire in Kongkan Thana.
Reacting to the incidents, Rahul Gandhi said, “Manipur has been burning for years, and today again, 20 homes have been reduced to ashes in the fire of hatred and violence.” Rahul further stated, “Even with two governments and President’s Rule, the conflict is only deepening. Thousands have lost their lives, countless families have been shattered.”
Blaming the Centre, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said, “This is the result of the Modi government’s divisive ideology, which divides people in the name of religion, caste, language, region and identity.”
He also alleged that people had “given up hope” of any meaningful response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserted that “Manipur deserves better, and for that, uniting India is the only way forward.”
Fresh allegations have emerged from both Kuki and Naga organisations, with each accusing the other of orchestrating the attacks. Security agencies are investigating the incidents.
