Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were ordered out of Tihar Jail on Wednesday after giving written undertakings to maintain peace; they must appear before the Crime Branch on Thursday

New Delhi: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who walked out of Tihar Jail on Wednesday after a Special Executive Magistrate ordered their release on peace bonds, have received fresh summons from the Delhi Police Crime Branch, which has asked them to appear at its Rajouri Garden office at noon on Thursday.
The summons came a day after SEM Ritu Raj rejected the police request to extend their judicial custody by three days, holding that further detention was unnecessary in view of their written assurances to maintain peace and abide by the law.
The two leaders furnished personal and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each and undertook not to disturb public tranquillity or call for protests at Jantar Mantar while the site remains denotified for demonstrations. They also assured the court that any future protests would remain within the constitutional framework.
The court directed them to attend all hearings and asked the investigating officer to submit a report verifying their sureties. The next hearing is scheduled for October 23 at 3 pm.
Das and Ranka were detained over an October 13 protest at Jantar Mantar, where police alleged they violated restrictions after the site was denotified as a designated protest venue.
They have been demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and voter deletions.
