Central Park to remain closed for two days as police cite security concerns and say the proposed demonstration has not been granted permission

New Delhi: More than 6,000 Delhi Police personnel, 220 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and an expanded CCTV network have been deployed in New Delhi ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place on Friday.
The march, scheduled for 5 pm, was announced by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke following the judicial custody of party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. Student organisations, activists and Aam Aadmi Party supporters are also expected to participate.
Security has been tightened around Connaught Place, Rajiv Chowk, Jantar Mantar, Palika Bazaar and nearby Metro stations. Barricades have been erected at several locations, while more than 10 CCTV cameras have been installed around Central Park and Rajiv Chowk.
The New Delhi Municipal Council has ordered Central Park’s closure on Friday and Saturday for administrative reasons. Delhi Police PRO Neha Yadav said the march had not received permission and prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were in force.
Yadav said police could facilitate a small group of protesters to wave the national flag and sing the national anthem at an alternative location. Police have also appealed to the public to avoid unauthorised gatherings and warned of action against violations.
