Tipra Motha Chief Pradyot Debbarman Announces Political Exit: Says ‘Time Starts Now’ for Tiprasa Accord

TIPRA Motha founder says he will leave active politics after next month, urges younger leaders to take charge and Centre, Tripura government to implement accord commitments

Agartala: TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Barma has announced that he will step away from active politics after next month, bringing an end to a prominent phase of his political career in Tripura.

In a Facebook Live address, Deb Barma said the decision was clear and final, and came after years of political work and negotiations over the Tiprasa Accord had taken a toll on his health and personal life. He said he believed it was the right time to step aside while his political standing remained strong.

The announcement came days after TIPRA Motha’s performance in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections, held after a decade. Deb Barma said the victory belonged to the people and urged newly elected representatives to remain connected with their communities and focus on village development.

Recalling his political journey since entering public life in 2017, Deb Barma said TIPRA Motha had brought different tribal groups together around the demand for indigenous rights. He urged party workers to remain honest and warned against compromising community interests for political positions.

A major focus of his farewell address was the Tiprasa Accord. Deb Barma called for the Centre and Tripura government to begin implementing their commitments, saying, “Time starts now.”

He said implementation should address constitutional, land, language, education, political and financial rights of Tiprasa people in the ADC areas. He also appealed for peace between tribal and Bengali communities and said he would continue raising public issues even after leaving active politics.

Deb Barma said a public meeting would be held next month with Village Committee representatives and TIPRA Motha workers, where he would formally announce his departure from active politics.
