TMC Names Abdul Salam as Nagaon Lok Sabha Bypoll Candidate

Assam TMC announces Abdul Salam for the Nagaon seat as election preparations gather pace ahead of October 6 polling

Nagaon: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has named Abdul Salam as its candidate for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election in Assam, adding another contender to the increasingly competitive electoral contest.

The announcement was made by Assam Pradesh TMC president Sherman Ali Ahmed. With Salam’s candidature, the party is set to contest the Nagaon seat amid preparations for a multi-cornered battle.

Meanwhile, the Nagaon district administration has stepped up preparations following the Election Commission of India’s announcement of the poll schedule on September 7. Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Aranyak Saikia said the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect.

The last date for filing nominations is September 16, followed by scrutiny on September 17. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until September 19. Polling will be held on October 6, with counting scheduled for October 9.

The constituency has 19,07,209 eligible voters across eight Assembly segments, five in Nagaon and three in Morigaon district with 1,339 polling stations.

Election materials and strong rooms for the five Nagaon segments will be managed at Nagaon Government Higher Secondary Boys’ School and Dawson Higher Secondary Multi-purpose School. Counting will also be held at the two locations.

The administration has also established helplines at 03672-238000 and 1077 and appealed to voters to cooperate for the peaceful conduct of the by-election.
