Nagaon will have 1,339 polling stations across 684 locations, while Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says the BJP will focus on strengthening its position across the constituency’s seven Assembly segments
Nagaon: More than 11.38 lakh voters across seven Assembly segments of the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency will be eligible to vote in the upcoming by-election, Nagaon District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia said on September 7.
The District Commissioner further said that 11,38,362 voters will be eligible to exercise their franchise, with 1,339 polling stations to be set up across 684 locations. A total of 149 officials from Nagaon district will also be deployed for election duties.
Special arrangements will be made for persons with disabilities and voters above 85 years, who will have access to home voting. Postal ballots will be available for eligible service voters.
The administrations of Nagaon and Morigaon have also directed citizens to deposit firearms as part of security measures. Two strong rooms will be established at Nagaon Government Higher Secondary Boys’ School and Dawson Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the BJP is likely to announce its Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll candidate within the next few days.
The CM acknowledged that Nagaon is not traditionally a BJP stronghold, noting that the party lost the previous Lok Sabha election by around 2.5 lakh votes. He said the BJP would seek to retain Jagiroad, Morigaon and Raha, where it won in the 2026 Assembly election, while working to improve its performance in the remaining segments.
“We will not speak about win or loss,” the Chief Minister said, stressing that the BJP would focus on improving its overall performance. The Nagaon Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after its sitting MP was elected to the Assam Assembly on a BJP ticket.
