Sivasagar: The Konyak Union (KU) and the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) have agreed to address border-related and other bilateral issues through direct dialogue, ruling out the involvement of any third-party organisation.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting in Sivasagar, Assam, on August 22, where representatives reaffirmed the historical and fraternal ties between the Konyak and Tai Ahom communities.
KU Press and Media Secretary Kaibo Konyak said the two organisations unanimously agreed that any border or community-related concerns would be resolved through mutual dialogue and understanding.
A Peace Committee comprising representatives of both organisations will also be formed to maintain communication, prevent misunderstandings and facilitate peaceful resolution of future disputes.
The meeting also expressed concern over recent floods and landslides in Nagaland’s Mon district and parts of Assam. The organisations urged the Assam and Nagaland governments to conduct scientific and technical assessments to determine the causes and contributing factors behind the disasters. They also called for preventive measures and long-term environmental management to reduce future risks.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening friendship, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence between the two communities while working towards sustainable development in the region.
