Guwahati: The Assam government launched the first phase of interim flood relief, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma releasing Rs 112 crore to support families affected by the recent floods.
Under the relief package, around 77,500 flood-affected families in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat will receive Rs 15,000 each through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to help them begin rebuilding their lives.
The Chief Minister said the financial assistance is intended as immediate relief while the government continues assessing the full extent of flood-related losses. A detailed ground-level damage assessment is scheduled to begin on August 10, after which eligible families will receive compensation in accordance with government norms.
The Chief Minister additionally announced an additional Rs 10,000 for families in Sivasagar and Charaideo that remain displaced and are unable to return home by August 9. The amount will be disbursed from August 10.
During the programme, the Chief Minister also launched the state subsidy under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for eligible flood-affected households, alongside ongoing rehabilitation efforts in the four worst-hit districts.
