Assam Flood Death Toll Rises to 82: Affected Population Falls below 2 Lakh

Two fresh deaths were reported from Sivasagar and Charaideo as flood conditions persisted in five districts, according to the latest ASDMA bulletin

Guwahati: The death toll in Assam’s floods rose to 82 after two more fatalities were reported, even as the number of affected people declined to 1,92,799, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

The latest deaths were reported from the Nazira revenue circle in Sivasagar district and Sonari in Charaideo district. No person was reported missing.

Floods continued to affect five districts- Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat and Nagaon- covering 17 revenue circles and 379 villages. Charaideo remained the worst-hit with 77,456 affected people, followed by Sivasagar (63,492) and Jorhat (34,067). The situation improved from the previous day, when over 2 lakh people across eight districts were affected.

Authorities were operating 54 relief camps sheltering 12,994 displaced people, while 26 relief distribution centres were assisting 5,384 beneficiaries. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force, the State Disaster Response Force and other agencies continued relief operations.

Around 15,430 hectares of farmland remained submerged, with damage also reported to houses, roads and public infrastructure.
