Village Rockstars 2: Rima Das’ Award-Winning Film Heads to Cinemas on September 25

Award-winning Assam filmmaker Rima Das’ sequel will release across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune

Guwahati: Assam filmmaker Rima Das’ award-winning film Village Rockstars 2 will hit cinemas across six Indian cities on September 25, the makers announced on September 15.

The film will release in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune following its theatrical run in Assam and a screening at MAMI Independent.

A sequel to Das’ 2017 film Village Rockstars, the new film also works as a standalone coming-of-age story. Set in rural Assam, it follows a teenage girl navigating friendship, aspirations and the challenges of growing up, while exploring music, nature, climate change and the bond between a mother and daughter.

“Some have watched the film at the film festivals. I am happy to take the film to a larger audience,” Das said, adding that viewers have responded differently to her films and often take away something personal from them.

Village Rockstars 2 premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, where it won the Kim Jiseok Award, before its European premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The film is being distributed by Goenka Enterprises. Das’ next film, Not a Hero, is scheduled for its Asian premiere at Busan next month.
