The U-60 kg kg judoka became the first athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to win a medal at the Asian Cadets & Junior Judo Championships after defeating Tajikistan’s I Shamsov in Jordan
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s Kentu Lap created history by winning a bronze medal at the Asian Cadets & Junior Judo Championships, held in Amman, Jordan, from July 16 to 19.
Competing in the U-60 kg category, Lap produced an impressive performance throughout the tournament and secured the bronze medal by defeating I Shamsov of Tajikistan in the medal bout.
With the achievement, Lap became the first judoka from Arunachal Pradesh to win a medal at the prestigious continental championship, according to the Arunachal Judo Association (AJA).
The association congratulated Lap and acknowledged the dedication of his coaches, family and support staff in helping him reach the podium.
AJA officials said the historic achievement would inspire aspiring judokas from Arunachal Pradesh to compete with confidence on the international stage and serve as a major milestone in the growth of judo in the state.
