Agartala: The Tripura Government has made it mandatory for all schools across the state to begin their daily morning assemblies with the full rendition of the National Song, Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana, as part of efforts to strengthen patriotism, discipline and national consciousness among students.
The directive, issued by the School Education Department, applies to government, government-aided, private and recognised madrasa schools. Approved by the State Cabinet, the order also requires students, teachers, non-teaching staff and administrative personnel to stand at attention during the rendition of both the National Song and the National Anthem.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who also holds the School Education portfolio, said the initiative aims to instil constitutional values, civic responsibility and respect for India’s cultural heritage among students.
“The initiative seeks to foster national unity, deepen respect for India’s cultural heritage and strengthen the sense of responsibility towards the nation. It also reflects the government’s resolve to nurture a generation of more aware, responsible and patriotic citizens,” Saha said.
The School Education Department said the decision has been taken in line with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ guidelines and is intended to ensure uniform observance of national symbols across educational institutions.
While the National Anthem has long been a regular part of school assemblies in Tripura, the singing of Vande Mataram was previously optional and left to the discretion of individual institutions. With the new directive, its daily rendition has become mandatory across all schools in the state.
