Shillong: Meghalaya marked a major infrastructure and development milestone with the foundation laying of 30 projects worth Rs 1,246 crore, spanning tourism, connectivity, education, skill development and livelihood generation. The projects were launched in the presence of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
According to Sangma, the initiatives fall under key programmes, including the Meghalaya Ecotourism Infrastructure Development Project (MEIDP), Meghalaya Logistics & Connectivity Improvement Project (MLCIP), Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya (Phase II) and the Integrated Ecotourism & Sustainable Agri-based Livelihood Development Project (IESALDP).
Highlighting the scale of ongoing investments, Sangma said Meghalaya is currently implementing externally aided projects worth more than Rs 12,000 crore, a move aimed at accelerating economic growth and expanding opportunities across multiple sectors.
“These projects will strengthen connectivity, tourism, education, skills and livelihoods across Meghalaya,” the Chief Minister said, while thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sitharaman for their continued support.
Sangma further asserted that despite its size, Meghalaya is pursuing ambitious development goals through strategic investments and innovation-driven initiatives. The newly launched projects are expected to enhance infrastructure, improve access to services and generate long-term socio-economic benefits for communities across the state.
