Naga Civilian Killings Case: Women’s Union and ANSAM Demand NIA Probe; Warn of Intensified Agitation

Naga organisations questioned the pace of the investigation into the killing of six civilians and criticised the treatment of injured Kuki individuals at RIMS

Imphal: Pressure is mounting on the Manipur and Central governments over the killing of six Naga civilians, with the Naga Women Union (NWU) and the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) demanding a swift and impartial investigation and warning of intensified protests if justice is denied.

Addressing a press conference in Imphal, NWU president Priscilla Thuimai described the recovered bodies as “mutilated and dismembered” and called for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the case.

“If the investigating agency is independent and thorough, the people will have faith in the process,” she said, while criticising the lack of updates from local investigators.

The six civilians were reportedly abducted on May 13 and later killed. Their remains are currently at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) mortuary.

Meanwhile, ANSAM president Th. Anteshang Maring questioned why no suspects had been publicly identified more than a month after the incident. He alleged that family members had already submitted names of individuals suspected to be involved.

Both organisations also criticised the admission of three injured Kuki individuals to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) following a recent gunfight in Kangpokpi, arguing that the decision had further inflamed tensions.

“The Naga community across the globe has arisen,” Thuimai warned, adding that stronger agitation would follow if authorities fail to ensure accountability.
