The Chief Minister reviews encroachment-free land management, e-governance reforms, public-private partnerships and agricultural infrastructure to accelerate Assam’s development agenda

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a series of high-level meetings at Lok Sewa Bhawan on Monday, focusing on land protection, digital governance, agricultural infrastructure and investment-led growth.
Reviewing the state’s anti-encroachment campaign, Sarma said Assam has reclaimed more than 200 sq km of government land over the past five years. He stressed that the government is now working on long-term measures to prevent encroachers from returning to the recovered areas.
The Chief Minister also directed departments such as Education, Health and Power to identify projects that could benefit from the Centre’s Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme, aimed at improving the viability of critical infrastructure projects.
In a separate review of the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), the Chief Minister called for increased investment in agricultural infrastructure, stronger support for exporters of GI-tagged and organic products, and closer integration of farmers with aggregators and export markets.
The Chief Minister aditionally instructed the Agriculture Department to organise a mega stakeholder workshop during August-September and expedite efforts to secure GI tags for indigenous products while expanding organic certification across the state.
Additionally, the Chief Minister reviewed plans to expand Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects and urged departments to build a strong pipeline of bankable ventures aligned with the vision of Viksit Assam.
The Chief Minister also assessed progress under the E-File Monitoring System, emphasising the smooth implementation of the e-Office platform and exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence to make governance more efficient, transparent and citizen-centric.
