Chief ministers, governors and senior officials from all eight northeastern states deliberate on connectivity, investment, tourism and long-term development priorities in Shillong

Shillong: Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong, where leaders from across the Northeast discussed a shared roadmap for regional growth under the North East Vision Plan 2047.
The high-level meeting brought together chief ministers, governors, deputy chief ministers and senior bureaucrats from all eight northeastern states. Deliberations focused on accelerating infrastructure development, improving connectivity, boosting tourism, attracting investment and strengthening economic cooperation across the region.
According to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), the session reviewed progress made by Chief Minister-led High-Level Task Forces constituted for key sectors. Participants also assessed outcomes of major initiatives, including the North East Investment Summit and Bankers’ Conclave.
Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said the region’s leadership remains united in its commitment to building a “stronger and more prosperous Northeast.” Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma welcomed delegates and underscored the importance of collaborative action in implementing development strategies.
Presentations were made on agriculture, tourism, sports, industrial growth, handloom and handicrafts, logistics, infrastructure and self-reliance in food production. Leaders also examined opportunities to leverage the region’s unique strengths and improve coordination among states.
Established under the North Eastern Council Act, 1971, the NEC serves as the apex regional planning body for the Northeast. Officials said the discussions are expected to guide coordinated policy action and help shape the region’s development trajectory up to 2047.
