
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday announced the launch of four new initiatives under the Skills Meghalaya programme during Skillerate 2026 held at North-Eastern Hill University.
The newly launched programmes, PROPEL, MEGASKILL, SHIELD and EQUIP are aimed at strengthening livelihood opportunities, entrepreneurship and skill-based employment for the youth of the state.
Sharing details of the event, Sangma said the government also distributed trade-specific toolkits to trainees from various sectors, including tour guides, plumbers and technicians. According to the Chief Minister, nearly 21,000 trainees will benefit from the initiative, which involves an investment of around Rs 24 crore.
Highlighting the broader impact of Meghalaya’s skilling initiatives, Sangma stated that the government has invested nearly Rs 80 crore in the Meghalaya Skills Programme over the last three years. He added that the programme has generated an estimated Rs 150 crore in earnings for trained youths through placements, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities both within India and abroad, including in Japan and Singapore.
The event formed part of Meghalaya’s continuing push to strengthen workforce development and expand economic opportunities for young people across the state.
