Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled the names of 12 legislators who will be inducted into his Council of Ministers, marking a major expansion of the state Cabinet nearly a month after the NDA returned to power with a sweeping mandate.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for June 5, when the new ministers will take oath and formally join the Sarma-led government.
Announcing the development on X, the Chief Minister said the incoming ministers are Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Biswajit Daimary, Jayanta Mallabaruah, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul, Nilima Devi, Pijush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu and Susanta Borgohain.
The induction will significantly strengthen the second Himanta Biswa Sarma ministry, which was initially sworn in on May 12 following the NDA’s emphatic victory in the Assembly elections. The alliance secured 102 of Assam’s 126 Assembly seats, with the BJP winning 82 seats and its allies, the AGP and BPF, securing 10 seats each.
At the time, the Chief Minister, along with Atul Bora, Ajanta Neog, Rameswar Teli and Charan Boro, had taken oath as Cabinet ministers.
While the new ministers are now confirmed, portfolio allocations are expected to be announced after the oath-taking ceremony. The Cabinet expansion is seen as a key step in shaping the government’s governance roadmap for its second consecutive term.
