The temporary responsibility comes before the first sitting of the newly elected Assam Assembly, while cabinet expansion is expected after the session

Guwahati: Assam Minister Atul Bora has been assigned the Parliamentary Affairs Department as an interim responsibility ahead of the first session of the newly constituted Assam Legislative Assembly.
According to an official notification issued on May 16, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya approved the move on the advice of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The arrangement will remain in place temporarily before the Assembly begins its proceedings later this week.
Bora, a senior AGP leader and cabinet minister in the BJP-led government, already oversees several key portfolios, including Panchayat and Rural Development, Implementation of the Assam Accord, Border Protection and Development, and Excise.
The first session of the new Assembly is scheduled to commence on Thursday and continue until May 26. The sitting will mark the beginning of legislative proceedings under the newly formed government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister has already indicated that the state cabinet will undergo expansion following the conclusion of the ongoing Assembly session, signalling further allocation of portfolios and induction of additional ministers in the coming days.
