Assam Set for NDA Swearing-In on May 12: PM Modi Expected to Attend

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top BJP leaders expected at Khanapara ceremony as administration reviews security and preparedness

Guwahati: The swearing-in ceremony of Assam’s newly elected BJP-led NDA government will take place on May 12 at the Veterinary Field in Khanapara, Guwahati, with extensive preparations already underway for the high-profile event.

Announcing the schedule, Ravi Kota said the administration has begun large-scale coordination efforts ahead of the ceremony, which is expected to be attended by Narendra Modi, several Union ministers, chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, along with industry representatives.

To review arrangements, Kota held a high-level meeting with Harmeet Singh, focusing on security deployment, traffic regulation, venue readiness, protocol management, and coordination between departments.

In a post on X, the Chief Secretary said all concerned departments have been instructed to maintain the “highest level of preparedness” to ensure the programme is conducted smoothly and securely.

Meanwhile, Himanta Biswa Sarma submitted his resignation to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday. However, the Governor requested him to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until the formation of the new government.

The BJP has also appointed J. P. Nadda as observer and Naib Singh Saini as co-observer for the election of the BJP Legislature Party leader, expected on May 10. The NDA secured a third straight term in Assam after winning 102 of the state’s 126 Assembly seats.
