Rahul Gandhi Hails “UDF Government with Vision” 26 as ECI Trends Confirm Lead

Congress-led UDF emerges ahead as early ECI trends show strong lead over CPI(M)-led LDF and BJP in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: : Counting of votes for the Kerala Assembly Election 2026 began at 8:00 am across 140 centres in 43 locations, following the April 9 polling. The process marked the conclusion of a closely watched contest between the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF, the Congress-led UDF, and the BJP-led NDA.

According to the trends released by the Election Commission of India, the Congress-led UDF has taken an early lead, setting the tone for the counting process. The tallying began with postal ballots, which accounted for 1.36% of total votes polled, before moving to EVM counting after the opening of strongrooms at around 6:30 am in the presence of EC observers, security personnel, and party representatives.

As per updated figures, the Congress has secured 63 seats, while CPI(M) has won 26 seats. The CPI has recorded 7 wins, and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has secured 20 seats. The BJP has managed to win 3 seats.

Reacting to the results, Rahul Gandhi said, “Thank you to my brothers and sisters in Keralam for a truly decisive mandate.” He further added, “Keralam has the talent, Keralam has the potential, and now Keralam has a UDF government with a vision to harness both.”

Counting is still underway in several constituencies as final confirmation of results continues.
