Congress strengthens oversight across Assam after high turnout in Assembly polls
Guwahati: With vote counting scheduled for May 4, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has rolled out a structured monitoring plan by constituting seven dedicated teams to oversee the process across the state.
The decision, announced by APCC general secretary-in-charge Jitendra Singh along with state president Gaurav Gogoi, aims to tighten supervision and ensure real-time coordination during counting. Notably, the move follows a strong voter turnout of 85.96 percent recorded on April 9, signalling a high-stakes electoral outcome.
Each team has been assigned specific regions to streamline responsibilities. In Upper Assam, senior leaders including Debabrata Saikia and Utpal Gogoi will coordinate efforts, while Ripun Bora and others will supervise the North Bank districts. Similarly, Central Assam and hill areas will be monitored by a larger group led by Bhimananda Bora and Mira Borthakur Goswami.
Meanwhile, separate teams have been deployed in Lower Assam, Barak Valley, and the Bodoland Territorial Region to ensure full coverage.
According to party sources, the teams will “closely track every stage of the counting process,” including inspections of strongrooms, coordination with candidates, and liaison with district-level leadership. Importantly, members will reach counting centres in advance and remain stationed until the exercise concludes.
Through this approach, the Congress aims to maintain vigilance, improve communication, and respond swiftly to any issues during counting day.
