Zubeen Garg Case: Siddhartha Sharma Moves Bail Plea as Trial Process Advances

Special Fast Track Court frames charges against seven accused under multiple BNS provisions, including conspiracy and culpable homicide

Guwahati: The legal proceedings in the high-profile Zubeen Garg-related case witnessed another major development on Monday after accused Siddhartha Sharma filed a bail application before the court while the matter continued to move toward trial.

The case is currently being heard by a Special Fast Track Court in Assam, where charges have already been formally framed against seven accused individuals. The court, presided over by Judge Sharmila Bhuyan, has invoked multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections linked to culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy, extortion, cheating and destruction of evidence.

According to court records, different charges have been applied based on the alleged involvement of each accused. The provisions invoked include Sections 3(6), 3(7), 3(8), 61(2), 103(1), 105, 238, 308(2), 318(4) and 316(5) of the BNS.

With the framing of charges now complete, the court is expected to proceed with the trial phase in the coming hearings. Meanwhile, Sharma’s bail petition will be taken up separately as part of the ongoing judicial process.

The case has drawn widespread public attention across Assam, with multiple hearings already held in recent weeks.
