The court refused bail to Paresh Baisya and Nandeshwar Bora in the disproportionate assets case, while businessman Siddharth Sharma’s plea and a petition seeking de-freezing of bank accounts are scheduled for hearing on July 24

Guwahati: Legal proceedings in the case linked to late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg continued on June 25, with a court rejecting the bail pleas of his two bodyguards, Paresh Baisya and Nandeshwar Bora. The matter has now been listed for further hearing on July 23.
During the proceedings, counsel representing the accused sought additional time to prepare submissions before the court. Following the request, the court fixed the next date of hearing while directing that the matter proceed in accordance with the legal process.
Paresh Baisya and Nandeshwar Bora were earlier booked in a case registered by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell over allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income. Investigators are examining financial records and other documents linked to the accused as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Meanwhile, Siddharth Sharma, another accused in the case, also failed to secure any immediate relief from the court. His matter has been scheduled for hearing on July 24.
On the same day, the court is expected to hear a separate petition seeking the de-freezing of bank accounts seized during the investigation. Sharma had approached the High Court through his legal counsel seeking permission to operate bank accounts linked to his business venture, Mahabir Aqua, arguing that access to the funds is necessary for business operations.
With multiple petitions pending before the courts, the case continues to attract significant public attention. Further developments are expected in the coming weeks as hearings related to the accused, financial investigations and seized assets move forward through the judicial process.
