YouTuber Dhruv Rathee Detained From Gurugram Residence: Party Demands Release

YouTuber reportedly taken from Gurugram residence as police tighten security ahead of demonstration against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

New Delhi: YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was detained by Delhi Police from his residence in Sector 56, Gurugram, on Saturday morning ahead of the proposed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, police sources said.

According to sources, around 50 Delhi Police personnel arrived at Rathee’s residence and took him into custody as he prepared to join the demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The CJP subsequently demanded his immediate release.

Rathee had announced his participation in the protest through a video posted on X on Friday evening. Known for his criticism of the Narendra Modi government, he returned to India from Germany earlier this week and participated in a CJP demonstration in Bengaluru on October 8.

Meanwhile, CJP legal cell head Ratna Singh alleged that police personnel prevented her from joining the protest. In a video recorded inside her car, she claimed officers surrounded the vehicle and did not provide a clear reason for the restrictions.

The alleged detentions came amid heightened security across Delhi ahead of the CJP demonstration. Police had denied permission for the protest, citing security concerns and procedural requirements.

Authorities stepped up preventive measures, with reports of mass detentions and restrictions affecting public transport as protesters attempted to reach the proposed demonstration site.
