Congress MP questions the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the Lok Sabha discussion on education, as Opposition protests force adjournment
New Delhi: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday criticised the Union government over the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the Lok Sabha discussion on education, alleging that the Centre was avoiding accountability over the NEET paper leak controversy.
“There is a discussion on the examination, and the Prime Minister or the Home Minister is not in the House. What kind of discussion is this where the Prime Minister is absent, and the Home Minister is not present?” Gogoi told reporters outside Parliament.
Gogoi said the Opposition had demanded that the Home Minister respond to issues relating to the alleged police action against student protesters, adding, “Our primary demand is that the Union Home Minister respond, but since he is not even present, how can he give a response?”
“I feel that the Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister do not want to answer regarding education,” Gogoi alleged, adding that Opposition parties raised the issue during Question Hour to protest the “injustice” surrounding the matter.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon shortly after proceedings began amid protests by Opposition members demanding Amit Shah’s statement on police action against demonstrators protesting the alleged examination paper leaks.
