Students say statutory enquiry report has been submitted but findings remain undisclosed, seek action on accountability, funds and delayed Convocation
Tezpur: Students and research scholars of Tezpur University have sought a time-bound response from the Ministry of Education over the delayed conclusion of a statutory enquiry into allegations and institutional issues linked to the tenure of former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh.
In a consolidated representation dated September 7, the students said the enquiry, constituted under Section 9 of the Tezpur University Act on December 31, 2025, was expected to submit its report by March 31, 2026. They said the committee has since completed its proceedings and submitted its report, but its findings, recommendations and consequential decisions have not been communicated.
The representation raises concerns over alleged misuse of university resources, scarcity of funds, student welfare, drinking water and hostel conditions, as well as environmental damage on campus. Students also questioned the cancellation and continued uncertainty surrounding the Convocation for the 2025 graduating batch.
They assert that administrative continuity under the current interim arrangement should not replace accountability or close the enquiry without a reasoned decision.
The students have asked the Ministry to clarify the enquiry findings and action regarding Prof. Singh, fix responsibility wherever established, release pending funds and provide clarity on the Convocation.
They warned that continued inaction could lead to further escalation, including a complete shutdown of university functioning. They also said stakeholders could release documents submitted before earlier fact-finding and enquiry teams and consider an independent public enquiry if meaningful communication is not received.
