The vacation bench extended pre-arrest relief to five individuals named in the FIR lodged by Roy’s wife, who alleged they had abetted the BJP leader’s suicide

Agartala: A vacation bench of the Tripura High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to five individuals accused of abetting the suicide of BJP leader Rahul Kishore Roy.
The bench, headed by Justice Biswajit Palit, allowed the pre-arrest bail applications of Manoj Purakayastha, Pranbal Kanti Dey, Hirak Jyoti Nath, Saroj Deb and Abhijit Das. “The hearing was conducted on June 11, and the court has allowed the application,” defence counsel Sankar Lodh said after the order.
Roy, a BJP leader from Dharmanagar, was found dead at his residence a day after the results of a by-election in the Assembly constituency were declared.
Following his death, his wife, Ananya Bhattacharjee, filed an FIR alleging that the five accused, along with others, had driven her husband to take the extreme step.
In her complaint, Bhattacharjee alleged that the accused visited their residence twice on the day the by-election results were announced. During the first visit, they allegedly threatened family members and demanded information about Roy’s whereabouts.
She further claimed that the group returned around 1.30 am, abused Roy and misbehaved with his family members, circumstances she alleged led to his suicide.
Police have launched an investigation into the case, and one person has already been arrested in connection with the matter.
