Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma honours fallen soldiers and highlights the Assam Regiment’s legacy of courage and sacrifice in Shillong.
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 29 paid tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Regiment at its War Memorial in Shillong, honouring the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
The Chief Minister visited the Assam Regimental Centre following an invitation to honour the regiment, which was raised in 1941, drawing from the traditions of Northeast India.
During his visit, the Chief Minister signed the visitors’ book and expressed his respect for the fallen soldiers. He also interacted with army personnel and received the traditional ‘Gaon Bura’ honour. He further attended a ceremonial parade and witnessed an arms demonstration during the visit.
Highlighting the Assam Regiment’s distinguished military legacy and battle honours, he said the courage, valour and sacrifice of its personnel remain an enduring source of inspiration.
The Chief Minister said the War Memorial stands as a reminder of the dedication of soldiers who placed duty and the nation above their own lives. He added that the regiment’s legacy would continue to inspire future generations to serve the country with the same spirit of commitment and patriotism.
