Section 163 Imposed Ahead of KSU Rally as Shillong Remains on Alert

East Khasi Hills administration imposes BNSS Section 163 ahead of a KSU protest rally in Shillong following recent violence

Shillong: The East Khasi Hills district administration has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) ahead of a proposed protest rally by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) in Shillong on Friday.

The move comes against the backdrop of recent violence during a KSU rally in Shillong, prompting authorities to strengthen security arrangements and take preventive measures to maintain public order.

Security personnel have been deployed at the proposed protest locations, while heightened vigilance is being maintained across Shillong to prevent any further untoward incidents.

The imposition of Section 163 places restrictions on the gathering of large crowds and is intended to prevent situations that could potentially disrupt peace and public order during the protest programme.

Tension remains in Shillong following the recent violence linked to the KSU rally. With another protest planned, authorities have stepped up precautionary measures to prevent any escalation and ensure public safety.

The administration’s decision comes as security agencies remain alert across the city, particularly around areas identified as possible protest locations.
