Assam’s first Mount Everest summiteer receives Rs 10 lakh, traditional honors and an Assam Police job as the Chief Minister celebrates her historic achievement
Guwahati: Rupamoni Gorh scripted history by becoming the first Assamese mountaineer to conquer Mount Everest, one of the world’s most challenging climbing expeditions. Her achievement has been widely celebrated across the state, with leaders and citizens hailing it as a milestone for Assam’s adventure sports community.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma felicitated Rupamoni Gorh, the first Assamese mountaineer to scale Mount Everest, and announced that she would be offered a job in the Assam Police in recognition of her historic achievement.
At a special felicitation ceremony, the Chief Minister honoured Gorh with a gamusa, a bouquet and a traditional xorai. He also presented her with a cheque of Rs 10 lakh for bringing laurels to Assam through her successful ascent of the world’s highest peak.
Announcing the Assam Police job, the Chief Minister said the decision recognises Gorh’s determination and contribution to the state while encouraging young people to pursue adventure sports. He described her Everest expedition as a landmark achievement that has brought immense pride to Assam and would inspire aspiring sportspersons to dream big and overcome challenges.
