Gogoi alleges poor-quality tarpaulins, repackaged cooking oil and fake Aadhaar numbers in flood relief beneficiary lists
Morigaon: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi on August 29, accused the state government of large-scale irregularities in the distribution of flood relief materials and financial assistance, and demanded the immediate suspension of Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Debashish Sharma.
Speaking to the media in Morigaon, Gogoi alleged discrepancies in the distribution of relief materials in Sivasagar and Nazira. He claimed government-distributed tarpaulins were of poor quality and alleged irregularities in their procurement and distribution.
Gogoi also alleged that cooking oil supplied under the relief package was repackaged before being distributed, with officials allegedly involved. Questioning the distribution of the Rs 15,000 one-time assistance, Gogoi alleged that some beneficiary lists contained fake Aadhaar numbers, raising concerns over verification and the handling of relief funds.
Targeting Nagaon DC Debashish Sharma, Gogoi alleged that the officer was using his position to favour the BJP. He demanded Sharma’s suspension and action over what he described as political interference in the district administration.
