The Assam Congress chief urged Shah to address Parliament over the alleged crackdown on student protesters in BJP-ruled states
Guwahati: Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s absence from the Lok Sabha, claiming that he has not attended the House since July 21.
In a post on X on August 7, Gogoi wrote, “Since 21 July, the Home Minister Amit Shah has remained absent from Lok Sabha. Number of days absent: 14.” Gogoi’s remarks came amid the Opposition’s demand for Shah to make a statement in Parliament over the alleged action against student protesters in several BJP-ruled states.
The Congress leader had raised the issue during a media interaction in New Delhi on August 3, demanding that the Home Minister explain the actions allegedly taken by state governments and government agencies against protesters.
“The Congress clearly demands that the Union Home Minister come to the House and make a statement regarding the vindictive actions taken against protesters by BJP-ruled states and their agencies,” Gogoi had said.
The Congress leader also alleged that young women, girls and minor female students were being specifically targeted amid the controversy surrounding student protests. He questioned whether police complaints or FIRs would also be registered against those accused of abusing women and minor girls on social media.
