Raijor Dal leaders were detained during a Janata Bhawan protest in Guwahati over flood relief and compensation for affected families in Upper Assam

Guwahati: Several Raijor Dal leaders were detained by police on Saturday while protesting outside Janata Bhawan in Guwahati over the distribution of relief and compensation to flood-affected families in Upper Assam.
Those detained included party leaders Gyanashree Bora, Rasel Hussain and Bhasco D Saikia. Protesters raised slogans against the government before the leaders were taken away in a police vehicle, amid a heavy police presence outside the state secretariat.
In a video message following her detention, Bora alleged that several flood-affected families had yet to receive the promised Rs 15,000 assistance and said the protest was aimed at seeking relief for affected people. Hussain said the demonstration was intended to demand compensation and what he described as justice for flood-affected people in Upper Assam.
The detention came a day after Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi began an indefinite sit-in at the Assam Assembly premises over flood relief.
Gogoi is demanding Rs 15,000 in interim assistance for affected families in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat, an additional Rs 10,000 for families in Sivasagar and Charaideo, and Rs 10 lakh compensation for families that suffered major losses. He has also sought a CBI inquiry into the causes of the floods.
Gogoi has claimed that 30–40% of affected families in the four districts have not received the Rs 15,000 assistance. The claim has not been independently verified. The Assam government, meanwhile, has said 55,000 families have been identified for assistance, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
