Prime Minister Narendra Modi says the Centre is working closely with the Assam Government as floods claim 68 lives and continue to affect thousands across the state
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Members of Parliament from Assam to review the prevailing flood situation in the state, where heavy monsoon rains have claimed 68 lives and affected thousands across multiple districts.
Sharing the update on X, Modi said, “Met MPs from Assam and discussed the prevailing flood situation in various parts of the state. The Centre is working closely with the Assam Government in assisting those affected. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being.”
The floods have affected 445,495 people across six districts, with Charaideo and Sivasagar among the worst-hit areas. More than 71,000 people are currently taking shelter in relief camps, while 1,690 relief distribution centres are providing assistance under the supervision of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Rescue operations are being carried out by the NDRF, Army and other agencies. Meanwhile, Salman Khan’s foundation has distributed food and essential supplies in Sivasagar, complementing the Assam BJP’s Rs 12 crore relief initiative. An inter-ministerial Central team is also assessing the damage to facilitate additional assistance for the flood-hit state.
